AND A BIG SHOUT OUT TO THE STEWARDS OF THE STATION
The Orchard Park Depot Committee of the WNY Railway Historical Society
Special thanks goes out to the crew that keeps the historic Orchard Park Train Depot humming. Without their passion and stewardship, none of this magic would have a place to happen.

Bob Snyder
Bob has been a member of the Western New York Railway Historical Society since 1993 and a volunteer at the Orchard Park Railroad Depot since 1994. His love of trains began in preschool and has grown into a lifelong passion.

He enjoys all aspects of railroading, from model trains to full-size operations, as well as tourist rides, AMTRAK trips, visiting historic depots, and watching railroad videos.
Gary Ludwig
Gary’s interest in restoring the caboose at the Depot launched more than 27 years of dedicated volunteer work. He has been deeply involved in restoring rolling stock, refurbishing the interior woodwork of both the Depot and the Freight House, and guiding the recent full reconstruction of the site, including exterior restoration.

His most recent project was designing and rebuilding the Freight House deck and its accessible ramp. Gary continues to contribute his skills to a variety of ongoing projects and events.
Fran Hogenkamp
Fran moved with his family to Orchard Park’s Thorn Avenue in 1942, just a block from the Train Depot. Growing up hearing the chug of steam engines, watching his father commute by train during harsh winters and wartime gas rationing, and welcoming visiting grandparents who arrived on the B&O line made the Depot a central part of his early life.

In 2010, Fran discovered the Depot’s exterior had fallen into serious disrepair. He initiated a restoration fund that ultimately raised more than half a million dollars, leading to a full five-year restoration of the grounds and structure. Today, Fran continues to support activities that help preserve the Depot he has cherished since childhood.
Jeffrey Sweet
Jeffrey has been a member of the Western New York Railway Historical Society and a volunteer at the Depot since 2022. He brings a strong interest in railroads and a passion for organizing community events.

Jeffrey enjoys contributing to projects that help preserve railroad history while bringing people together.
Paul Napier
Paul retired in 1995 after a career as an expeditor of material for National Fuel. His connection to the Orchard Park Depot began in 2020 when his son-in-law worked on the building’s renovation. Paul visited often to photograph the progress and, during one event, met Jeffrey Sweet, who introduced him to volunteer opportunities. A Saturday meeting with Jim, Bob, Gary, Jeff, and Fran soon followed and marked the start of his involvement.

Paul now helps at all Depot events in whatever capacity is needed and takes part in meetings focused on the site’s ongoing care and improvement. He genuinely enjoys the time he spends serving the Depot community.
Glenn Potkawa
A lifelong resident of Orchard Park, Glenn attended local schools and graduated with the Class of 1973. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Television-Radio Broadcast Management from Ithaca College in 1977. In 1978, he joined General Mills as the Payroll Accountant for the Buffalo manufacturing complex, where he worked until retiring in 2007.

Glenn’s involvement with the Orchard Park Depot began in May 2025 through the Orchard Park Garden Club’s plant sale. Soon after, he accepted a position on the Depot’s advisory committee and continues to support its ongoing work.
Frank King
Frank has been a member of the Western New York Railway Historical Society since May 2025 and has volunteered at the Depot since September 2025. He retired from a career in sales in 2021.

Frank enjoys the history of the Depot, as well as classic cars and trains, and takes pleasure in contributing to the Depot’s activities and events.
